Professionalism after the Second World War

by Maria Vittoria Capitanucci

Product description

The postwar period was extremely important for building in Milan. A generation of professionals, who were heirs to the architectural revival of the Modern Movement, while also inclined to a certain expressive freedom, rebuilt the bombed city. They gave rise to their urban visions in this fertile ground for interdisciplinary dialogue and experimentation. The training of these architects was based on culture, set between new structural concepts and ideas from the international art world. Illustrious names and some left in obscurity (sometimes inexplicably) were the focus of articles in eminent Italian and international magazines, as well as of important books. They almost all gravitated around the MSA (Movimento Studi per l’Architettura) association, attending the Triennale, frequenting the same art galleries and joining in the same architecture firms. The work of those whose reputations were already established like Albini, BBPR, Gardella, Figini and Pollini, intertwined in their own designs with that of Asnago and Vender, the Latis brothers, Gho’, GPA Monti, Malchiodi, Mangiarotti, and Morassutti, to reshape Milan’s future.
