EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

The registered professionals are the heart of the Order. 48% of the members of the Milan Order are women, and in recent years the trend whereby the number of women increases as their age decreases has been confirmed.

Men/women in the Order

The Milan Order of Architects is active on the issue of equal opportunities to highlight specific needs and investigate issues related to access to and the exercise of the profession: a work team ArchiPOP has been set up within the Council with the aim of disseminating and promoting a culture of equal opportunity and inclusion within the Order.

Female stamp

Female members of the register can ask the Order for stamps bearing the feminine wording of titles. The feminine stamp, if requested by female members already in possession of the stamp, is issued as a duplicate for a fee.

Initiatives implemented

  1. 2017 The Council of the Milan Order of Architects has adhered to the Charter of Ethics for Equal Opportunities and Equality in the Architectural Profession.

  2. 2019–2021 Six meetings were organised as part of theO/A Cycle: Other perspectives, new opportunities, to talk about equal opportunities and gender equality, with opportunities for discussion on the challenges faced in the construction of tangible practices of change in different professional contexts.

  3. 2020 A questionnaire was carried out to investigate the effects and impact of the pandemic on the work habits of male and female members, which could be answered from 20 October to 20 November 2020. Approximately 1,200 members responded anonymously: a data analysis of the questionnaire was carried out and shared with the Council, the OAMi Foundation's Technical Scientific Committee dedicated to the profession and with the members at an open meeting in December 2020.

  4. 2020–2022 A cycle of evenings ”The Contribution of Women in Contemporary Architecture” was proposed, with examples from Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Austria and Canada, and evenings were organised to reflect on the legacy of Franca Helg, Cini Boeri and Gae Aulenti.
