The biennial Award is the result of a joint initiative between the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservationists of the Province of Milan and its Foundation, the Gabriele Basilico Archive and the Studio Marangoni Foundation.
The Award, dedicated to the memory of Gabriele Basilico (Milan, 1944-2013), a great protagonist of international architectural and landscape photography, is open to photographers under 40 and is aimed at the production of a project which will be presented in an exhibition and featured in a book.
Participation in the Award was by invitation: the jury (consisting of Giovanna Calvenzi, Vincenzo Castella, Francesca Fabiani, Jiehao Su, Bernard Latarjet, Martino Marangoni, Sandra Phillips, Franco Raggi, Stefano Tropea, Roberta Valtorta and Bas Vroege) identified 30 selectors from different countries. Each selector proposed two photographers who were invited to submit one of their projects.
49 authors from 29 countries submitted projects in the third edition.
The jury selected seven finalists and the winner of the second edition of the Award was Michele Borzoni, who submitted a project dedicated to the work spaces and to the social, economic and political changes in Nord-pas de Calais, a de-industrialised area in Northern France.
