Atelier des Pièces Détachées: a pedestals depot in the new KANAL-Centre Pompidou, by Francesca De Santis, supervisor Jacopo Leveratto, Aslı Çiçek. Master degree in Architecture, Built Environment, Interiors.
Motivation of the jury: "For the originality of the proposal and the reflection on the theme of conservation and valorization of the ephemeral, in this case in the museum and exhibition context. For the capacity for synthesis and communication of the thesis, for the graphic quality of the works and for the 'interesting idea of reusing the pedestals of the works indicating the resulting transposition (from support to work) which significantly calls into question the boundary between art and architecture, between project and curatorship, between exhibition device and work The project is therefore extremely mature and cultured and opens up to a broader discussion on the role of museum institutions today".
2nd Prize: € 500.00 + 3 books selected by the OAMI Foundation
Aqua manifesta: an experimental theatre dealing with water in Levanzo (TP), by Pietro Dallera, Andrea Frontani, Alessandro Ricci, supervisor Jacopo Leveratto. Master degree in Architecture, Built Environment, Interiors.
Motivation of the jury: "For having addressed the topicality and urgency of the theme of the recovery of resources and territory, with a view to a virtuous process in contexts of fragility. The theme is articulated through an effective representation that alternates technical drawings and three-dimensional physical models, establishing a suggestive dichotomy between poetic and expressive representation on the one hand and constructive in-depth analysis on the other. Starting from an ecological and environmental interest (and therefore working in the context of urgency and necessity) the project does not give up care and attention for the spatiality of the interventions and for the relationship they establish with the landscape".
3rd Prize: € 250.00 + 2 books selected by the OAMi Foundation
Comunità d'interspecie. Lampedusa come avamposto di flussi interspecifici, by Paolo Grossi, supervisor Davide Fabio Colaci. Master degree in Architecture, Built Environment, Interiors.
Motivation of the jury: "Starting from a non-trivial observation, the candidate defines an area of intervention in a symbolic context such as the island of Lampedusa, intelligently shifting attention to the marginal and fragile condition of the island's fauna, rather than thinking about the issue of migrants. Consequently, the architectural program is inserted and developed within a broader scenario with references to environmental issues and in a broader territorial perspective. The project relies on ephemeral and reversible structures to make the activities defined in the program. The thesis is very well represented from the point of view of both graphics and clarity and immediacy of communication".
SPECIAL MENTION
- Scripta manent. La riscoperta delle riviste. I casi Superfici e In", by Francesco Belluati, supervisor Marco Stefano Biraghi. Master degree in Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering.
Motivation of the jury: "For the ability to express intellectual and critical work in a radical way. An acute analytical ability with numerous references is evident, testimony to extensive research that manages to contextualize the magazines analyzed in their specific historical moment."
SPECIAL MENTION
- "Spolia": Material Memory and Reuse Value, by Lin Wei, supervisor Alessandro Villa. Master degree in Interior Design.
Motivation of the jury: "For having given the correct relevance to the theme of sustainability and the reuse of materials. An interesting sensitivity in approach to the material and to the construction technique of architecture is recognised, expressed through a design proposal that combines the ecological theme of reuse and the poetics of using what is recovered to imagine suggestive and contemplative places".
There were 48 participants in the theses for the 2023 edition, 76 students from the Polytechnic of Milan.
The 2023 edition is once again supported by the Japan Cultural Association ADF-Aoyama Design Forum.
Jury:
Marco Albini, architect
Lorenzo Bini, Order of Architects of Milan
Isabella Susi Botto, Metropolitan City of Milan
Alessandra Covini, Studio Ossidiana
Yukio Ishiyama, Garde Italia
Winners:
1rd Prize: € 1000,00 + 4 books selected by the OAMi Foundation
Paesaggi fragili. Il caso del cementificio a Tavernola Bergamasca, by Nadia Buelli, supervisor Arnaldo Arnaldi. Master degree in Architecture, Built Environment, Interiors.
Motivation of the jury: "Nadia Buelli wins the 2023 Neolaureati award with a very significant, mature, sensitive and precise project. An extremely complete work that originates from the choice of a fascinating but at the same time fragile place which therefore raises crucial questions related to the theme of reuse of industrial heritage, the protection of the environment and the need to be able to imagine a significant and appropriate functional program. Working on all these levels and at the different scales (from the territorial one to that of the architectural spaces) the author has developed a project of great value, she has reflected on the use of materials, on the articulation of the construction systems and on the selection of tree essences in an organic and balanced way and managed to present her work in a clear and refined way. As a promising young architect, Nadia Buelli has put at the center of architecture not so much a new construction, but a project based on 'one-do', on de-construction, on demolition and reuse, based on the idea of treatment".
2rd Prize: € 500,00 + 3 books selected by the OAMi Foundation
Spazi Alba. Riconversione degli ex-Magazzini Raccordati di Milano in un centro polifunzionale per il reinserimento sociale di persone fragili e in stato di grave emarginazione, by Marta Bagnacani, supervisor Luciano Crespi. Master degree in Interior and spatial Design.
Motivation of the jury: "Marta Bagnacani wins second prize thanks to a complete and detailed work. Starting from a precise and aware reading of an increasingly less inclusive and increasingly competitive social context such as that of Milan, the author tries to ask herself whether it is possible to imagine a sensitive and practicable response to the problem of homelessness. The choice of connected warehouses takes on a symbolic value that is certainly legitimate for a thesis and allows the development of an evocative architectural project capable of bringing together both the spatial organization and the study of materials and furnishing elements. The representation of the project manages to condense in a clear and logical way both the data relating to the social context and the design choices at the interior scale".
3rd Prize: € 250.00 + 2 books selected by the OAMi Foundation
Aquagranda, by Milena Rosati and Margherita Anna Villa, supervisor Arnaldo Arnaldi. Master Degree in Architecture and Urban Design.
Motivation of the jury: "Milena Rosati and Margherita Anna Villa won the third prize with a visionary and poetic project that starts from the awareness of the now inevitable environmental catastrophe and proposes a non-resolution, but rather adaptive strategy, accepting the unstoppable progress of water transforming it into design possibilities . The project looks at the environmental crisis not with resignation, but with optimism, offering concrete and proactive design solutions, and making us discover new forms of beauty in change. The authors choose Venice as a paradigmatic and symbolic context of the difficult coexistence with water and as an emblematic place of identification between city and art. Contemporary art itself (which in the words of the authors 'offers a unique perspective' from which to observe climate change) is the anchor of the project which proposes three different outcomes using significant places belonging to different historical moments and narrating with great imagination, sensitivity and talent like these could survive, adapting".
SPECIAL MENTION
- Ripensare il modo di abitare le città del futuro. Parte I: Conservation and renewal of historic urban areas in China. Parte II: L’invecchiamento della popolazione in Cina. Parte III: Progetto “Maxi-Maze", by Alarico Ruffino, supervisors Antonio Silva Ferreira de Carvalho e Stefania Sabatinello. Master degree in Architecture, Built Environment.
Motivation of the jury: "The project was awarded a special mention for having designed a new neighborhood in China, designed for the elderly segment of the population. It presents a low-density project as an antithesis to speculation in cities, reinterpreting historical typologies and scales. The jury appreciates the thematic choice and is impressed by the student's ability to work at different scales and by his representative capacity".
SPECIAL MENTION
- Montagna ritrovata. Strategie e progetti di architettura per la rigenerazione rurale del territorio alpino di Montes e Bolentina, by Giulia Montieri e Fabiola Ussia, supervisor Mauro Marinelli. Master degree in Architecture and Urban Planning.
Motivation of the jury: "The project wins a special mention for having thought consciously and sensitively about the possibility of revitalizing small Alpine villages, proposing a reactivation of traditional activities and imagining discreet and contained transformations of architectural artefacts. Giulia Montieri and Fabiola Ussia receive a special mention thanks to a coherent, sensitive, refined and well-represented thesis".
SPECIAL MENTION
- Ricomporre ritagli. Quartiere Torre Agli a Firenze, by Eleonora Capalbo, Claudia Guerini, Sara Nati, supervisor Fabio Lepratto. Master degree in Architecture and Urban Planning.

Architecture as catalyst for the hydrological restoration of a vulnerable landscape, by Alessandra Savorelli, supervisor Simone Giostra. Master's degree in School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering.
Considerations by the jury: For having explored the current theme of the regeneration of abandoned territories after intensive exploitation of resources. An interesting analysis that combines the formal aspect of architecture with the functional aspect, seeking to solve the problems associated with a water system that is peculiar to a territory.
SPECIAL MENTIONS
- Nature pursued. Project for the development and repurposing of the ruins of the Monastery of San Secondo on Isola Polvese, by Giovanni Grignani, supervisor Francesco Leoni. Master's Degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Construction Engineering.
Considerations by the jury: for the identification of a context and a design theme that seems to suggest a potential continuation in the professional field. Rewarding the passionate reading of a place in terms of its landscape and naturalistic aspects.
- The idiorrhythmic building. Proposals of shared living for the town of speculation, by Francesca Pesce, supervisor Gennaro Postiglione. Master's Degree in Architecture-Built Environment-Interiors.
Considerations by the jury: for the systematic manner in which the project was developed, starting from topical issues related to living, critically reconfiguring the typology of the apartment building, as a metaphor for a broader transformation extended to the whole town.
- “THE JUNGLE” MUSEUM. Project for the architectural transposition of Upton Sinclair's novel to the places where it was written and set, by Davide Guida, supervisor Andrea Gritti. Master's Degree in Architecture-Built Environment-Interiors.
Considerations by the jury: for its success in starting from a story and translating it into a design for the layout and reorganisation of spaces, maintaining the visionary and immersive spirit of the novel, suggesting the transformation of a decidedly emblematic existing building.
